Tasmanian Arboretum

Explore the trees of the world on a beautiful 66 hectare botanic garden of trees at the Tasmanian Arboretum which lies in a sheltered valley. Enjoy the peace, native animals and birds. Breathe the fresh air. Stand on a bridge and watch a platypus swim by. Arboretum opens daily at 9am - closes at 8pm during daylight savings - 5pm in normal times. City Mission North & North West TAS

The Burnie's City Kitchen at the Baptist Church Hall, 57 Mount Street is open Tuesday to Friday 9am - 1pm serving takeaway meals to everyone in the community - at 9am egg & bacon toasted sandwiches are available for a gold coin donation, at 12noon a two course takeaway meal for $3. We also have a separate table with goods (vegetables, milk, cereals, breads etc.) available for people doing it tough from 9am- 3pm. For those struggling to make ends meet, we are offering a special meal delivery anywhere between Wynyard & Devonport. Meal deliveries are only available in the afternoon and for people in hardship, just text the awesome Scott on 0409227003 and he will look after you.

Volunteering at Mural Fest - Volunteering is fun and rewarding, a great opportunity to meet new people, gain new skills and make a difference in the community in which you live. Every year, Sheffield comes alive for Mural Fest thanks to the generous support and commitment of sponsors and volunteers who together create a fun and festive environment for all to enjoy. Lions Club of Mersey Devonport Inc.

The Lions Club of Mersey Devonport are asking - would you like to make a difference and become a Lion? The Lions continue to fund annual awards for our local schools and support disadvantaged children with Circus Quuirkus shows both here in Devonport and further coastal areas. The Lions donate to local organisations and we support: Cancer Council Tasmania, Lions Youth of the Year and the Lions community Food Van. We cooperate with other local community groups. The Penguin History Group – Preserving the Past for the Future

The Penguin History Group is a small group of enthusiastic volunteers devoted to caring for and promoting the heritage of our local district. We have operated for over 26 years and our rooms are part of the old Penguin Railway station. Our group has an active core of 20 members who meet on a weekly basis, and we would welcome new members with open arms. Membership is very reasonable at $20 per person or $30 per couple which entitles access to our extensive collection of local historic data and resources. Our facilities are open to the public on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12-30pm and evenings from 7 to 8-30pm. Monthly meetings are held on the 2^nd Tuesday of each month in our rooms at the local railway station. For further enquiries phone Craig 0418559224. • To collect & collate historical records and memorabilia relevant to the Penguin district and to make them available for public display.
• To promote items and events of historical interest.
• To collect and collate oral histories of the Penguin district.

• To promote and conduct public events, functions and displays which promote Penguin’s heritage.

Autism Tasmania Community Resource Library

Autism Tasmania is launching a trail Community Resource Library our Burnie office in collaboration with local organisation Spectrum Friends. There will be a drop in Session on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1pm to 2 or by appointment at the Autism Tasmania Burnie Office at 9 King Street Burnie. Shingles Injection

While about one in three people will develop shingles in their lifetime and nearly all adults aged 50 years and older carry the inactive virus that causes shingles, the risk of developing shingles can be up to two times higher in people with immunocompromising conditions compared to those without these conditions. Shingles is a viral infection that is caused by the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox earlier in life. It can be a painful and potentially debilitating condition, and some people may also develop post-disease complications. From 1 September, the eligible population for Shingrix on the National Immunisation Program is expanding to cover more Australians aged 18 to 64 years who are considered to be at a moderate to high risk of shingles, due to an underlying condition and/or immunomodulatory/immunosuppressive treatments, as advised by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation. Shingrix is a non-live vaccine. Non-live vaccines do not contain live viruses so they cannot replicate in the body and do not cause disease, even in people with weakened immune systems. Australian adults with immunocompromised conditions are encouraged to speak with their doctor or specialist for further information about their eligibility for the NIP funded shingles vaccine, and whether it is appropriate for them.
