Sound in Space is back again at the Hive. One Sunday a month the Ulverstone Planetarium will once again be brought to life as an intimate performance venue for music and stories set against a backdrop of scenes of Earth and Space in this unique concert series. Session times are between 1 and 2pm and also 3 to 4pm on:

At Devonport Jazz, Emma will present an intimate musical portrait of a genius whose work is a pillar of the Great American Songbook – Harold Arlen. Over the Rainbow, Get Happy, Let’s Fall in Love, I’ve Got the World on a String, and Stormy Weather, are just a few of Harold Arlen’s well loved compositions. After a little time out of the kitchen, funky jazz and blues group King Cake, have reignited the flame to cook up some fresh soul food. On Friday the 26th July from 7 - 9:30pm, at the Mersey Yacht Club, Anchor Drive, East Devonport. In addition to their usual fare, jump blues and New Orleans funk, King Cake will be delving into the rich organ jazz repertoire of the 60’s chitlin circuit. The 1960s “chitlin circuit” hosted a diverse array of talented performers, including many iconic figures in jazz and blues music. Musicians who honed their craft in the clubs and juke joints at the time included B.B. King, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Smith. You can expect to hear crossovers of Jazz, Blues and Soul. The Mersey Yacht Club offers a fully licensed bar and stunning views of the Mersey River. Patrons are welcome to bring their own nibbles. No BYO drinks. Daryl Braithwaite is appearing at the Forth Hotel on Saturday 31st August. Daryl Braithwaite is an iconic Australian singer/songwriter and ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductee. As the front man and vocalist for 1970’s band Sherbet, Braithwaite rode a wave of local and international success with songs such as Howzat and Summer Love propelling the band the band to superstar status. Braithwaite went on to embark on a highly successful solo career which included a #1 ARIA Album Chart for his album Edge (1988) featuring the hit singles As The Days Go By and One Summer. Braithwaite’s 1990 follow up album Rise included the single The Horses which reached #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart and to this day remains an anthem for generations of Australians. In 2020, Braithwaite joined a host of local and international artists to perform at Fire Fight Australia, Concert For National Bushfire Relief in front of an audience in excess of 70,000 at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.
